Review : Thierry Mugler Alien EAU Extraordinaire

19 August 2016
Like I mentioned in this post (check out my haul) I did some online shopping and with it came  few samples. Red Square are very clever that way, and I was extremely vulnerable to their marketing geniusness. My package came with 3 samples and when I smelled this perfume, it grew on me to the point where I had to purchase it and own it, so that I can smell it all the time. Ridiculous, I know!!!

I always describe perfumes as fruity or floral or the generic NICE, so please bare with me while I stumble through this review (hoping and holding thumbs that I do this glorious perfume the justice it deserves).

Packaging – The whole box comes in this sleeve with this gorgeous women on the front. She looks ethereal. She beams elegance, happiness and warmth. When you take the sleeve off and you take the bottle out the box you find yourself holding a unique shaped bottle of the most heavenly smelling perfume. Even the spritzer is unusual. It has a latch at the back of the bottle that you press down for the perfume to be released. I am not even going to attempt to try and describe the shape of the bottle, I might just dislocate a limb in trying. Let’s leave it at it’s unique and fits in well with the vibe of this amazing perfume.

Notes –  (Top)  Bergamot, Tea, Tunisian Neroli, Lemon, Lime and Orange

(Middle) Tiare Flower, Heliotrope, Orange Blossom, Pepper, Ylang-Ylang.

(Bottom) White Amber, Cashmeran, Sandlewood, Vanilla, White Musk

Smell – There are so many notes I had to go and read up on them. The top notes include a lot of citrus notes and it comes in the perfume. At first you get this fresh and uplifting smell and then it turns sweet and spicy. It has got a strong scent to it and it quite overpowering for a little while.

If you are someone who does not like a bold fragrance, this is not for you! But I strangely feel confident and strong wearing this perfume. It lifts my spirits and make me positive and happy, t truly is a warm fragrance.

It is believed that if you have a lighter skin, lighter colored perfumes will suite you well. Now, lighter perfumes is usually associated with your floral / fruity type scents. With a darker skin tone, darker perfumes might suite you better. These are more on the spicy / musky type scents. Funny enough this is a light colored perfume with an amazing balance between fruity, floral and spicy / musky. The citrus notes provide the freshness and uplifting warmth, the florals softens the fragrance and provide a feminine approach and lastly the musk and spices bring the strong and confidence to this fragrance
Staying Power – I find that this perfume lasts quite well on me, the scent do fade a bit during the day but other people can still smell it well after lunch time (that’s now if I used it before I went to work) Although it is strong, It does not give me a headache like most strong perfumes do. At night when I get home and I smell my wrists, I can still smell this on me, though its not as intense as in the first few hours, but this is a good 10 hours later.

Price – This perfume is available in 3 sizes. 30ml @ R585, 60ml @R805 and 90ml @ R1140 (prices may differ, depending on where you purchase yours)

Where to find – I bought mine from Red Square Online, it was wrapped securely so that it will not get damage and it arrived in a very short period of time. You can get this from selected Foschini, Truworths and Stuttefords as well.

I find this perfume exhilarating and I will repurchase time and again. It simply is gorgeous. Have you tried or smelled this before? What did you think? Let’s chat in the comments below.

Love ya
