Review : Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless

14 June 2019

Who does not appreciated when quality meets affordability? I am sure as my fellow beauty junkies we are always on the hunt for that one bargain and this is it! In today’s post I will review the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless and you will see why this foundation has such a huge cult following.

Review Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation

I think this might have been one of the most anticipated foundations to reach South African shores. When news broke it will be coming to SA we all waited impatiently, myself included. For some reason I have waited until now to do a full review but here we go!

Packaging

The first thing you will notice about the packaging is that it come in a tube instead of a glass bottle. Apparently the US ad EU has different packaging, but I prefer the tube as the glass bottle does not come with a pump and can be a bit more messier. You have more control over a squeeze tube and it is also lighter (should you travel often).

Formula

The formula on this foundation is a little bit more runnier than normal medium to full coverage foundations. The Maybelline Fit Me Matte works beautiful with most beauty tools. I have used a brush and a beauty sponge and did not experience any streakiness. The foundation dries down quite quickly and set into a velvet texture. After applying this foundation, my skin feels comfortable and the foundation feels lightweight.

Coverage

Although the foundation feels lightweight, it can still pack a punch! I would say it is a solid medium coverage that is buildable into full coverage with a second layer (if needed). It can also be applied with a light hand, which will result in a much lighter coverage. I prefer the light to medium as I do not have any pigmentation to cover, more just evening out my skin tone.

Performance

I find this foundation is easy to work with, as it blends easy and feel very soft on the skin. Even when my skin is a little bit flaky or on the drier side, I can still get away with this foundation. Maybelline Fit Me Matte is marketed to dry down matte and shine free, but it also allows a little bit of your natural skin to show. It lasts quite well during the day and you can get a good couple hours of wear.

Shades Range

There are 14 shades in the range and they range from very light to quite dark. I am currently in a bit of a shade battle as the 110 is too light for me and the 120 is a tiny bit on the dark side. I think if there were a 115 it would have been spot on. Luckily I have the Fit Me powder as well in shade 110 and it helps a bit to tone the colour down.

Availability

You can purchase this foundation from Clicks, Foschini and Edgars (including their online stores) and a couple of other similar stores. They retail for R110 which is not a bad price at all for such a fantastic foundation.

Packaging

The Maybelline Fit Me Matte Powders comes in a convenient compact. The packaging is sturdy and has got a see through part where you can see the colour of the powder. The shade number is visible on the top and easy recognisable. The plastic is easy to clean and keep as neat as possible. I have hit pan since taking these photos and the compact is still in good condition and has not failed me.

Formula

Using the pressed powder together with the foundation is an awesome combination. It can be used to set the foundation on those days where you just need a little something extra to keep the oils at bay. But it can also be used during  the day for touch ups. I use the Cala Powder brush to apply this powder (see post here featuring the brush). The brush is fluffy and picks up just enough product. When you run your fingers over the pressed powder you will feel the powder is very finely milled. Not only does it soak up excess oils, it will also blur fine lines.

Performance

This is one of my favourite powders right now. I find it does not make me look cakey but keep my foundation matte enough without making it look flat. During the day I will need at least one more “powder down” to keep all the oils at bay and to freshen up my foundation. A little goes a long way and you can also use this powder to set your concealer or eye primer.

Shade Range

On the Foschini online store there are 9 shade available. Again they range from very pale to deep and dark skin tones. I find their range to be very inclusive.

Availability

Same as the foundation you get these powders from Clicks, Foschini and Edgars (including their online stores) and a couple of other similar stores. They also retail for R110 and are worth every cent!

I know I am unbelievably late with this review and most of you have tried and tested this foundation. Let me know in the comments below what your thoughts were and did you repurchase?
