This year Valentine’s day is going to look a whole lot different than previous years. No wine to calm the nerves for a first date, or to drown your sorrows if need be. But there are still ways we can celebrate and create new memories during these different times. In this post, I will be sharing some Valentine’s day gifts – Lockdown edition style… Since we have been spending so much time together why not create a gift together?
Unusual Valentine’s Day Gifts
Valentine’s day has never really been a holiday hubby and myself celebrate. We would occasionally go out for dinner or cook a special dinner at home, but we do not exchange gifts or make a huge fuss. So now that we are in lockdown Valentine’s day will actually just be another Sillifant Valentine’s day in our house.
But I did want to share some gift ideas you as a couple can get each other without having to go out. In saying this, there are so many restaurants that provide takeaway meals and I would love if you would leave your favorite spot in the comments below. In these trying times, it is extremely important to support our local businesses as they provide jobs and services we need to maintain a stable economy.
Cook a special meal together
Woolworths does these absolutely amazing meal kits where you get almost all the ingredients in a little wooden box and you get a recipe card. It’s lovely! Hubby got us one of these boxes either last year or 2019 – I cannot quite remember exactly when – but now we make this dinner dish every Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, I could not get the exact same one again, but we have made it a few times during the year that we know the ingredients off by heart.
This is a great way to get involved and spend time together. If you pair this with one of those bottles of wine tucked away for a special day or a Bavaria it will go down so well. Most of the recipes are easy to make with only a hand full of ingredients. You do not have to be a master chef to put these meals together and best of all, they are delicious!
Movie Night – Snack Kit
This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday and makes it the perfect Netflix and chill kinda day. Watch movie after movie and just stay in bed. I have packed a snack bowl with all of my favorite snacks and made a list of all the romantic comedies we need to watch. You what they say: “Happy wife, happy life!” The best about this gift is you can fill it with all of your own and your significant other’s favorite snacks!
Plan a trip together
I am sure by now the cabin fever is a new reality for most of us! Supporting local small businesses is so important so this is why I think this will be a great gift for each other. Take the day and plan a special trip. South Africa has got so many beautiful spots that it can be hard to choose where to go first. Take the day and plan a trip you can take as soon as lockdown is over. Lekkerslaap has got 1000’s of great BnB’s or hotels with amazing deals. I am sure there will be great Valentine’s Day gift specials as well.
30 Seconds V-Day Edition
Write a handful of topics, questions, or memories down on paper (if you want to be extra like me fold them into heart-shaped origami). You can spend most of the day reminiscing about the good old days. Hubby and I have been together for over 15 years this year. There are so many good memories one can easily forget about. Do not be scared to even dream about the future. This is a very special gift idea and can even take on a kinky twist if you put your mind to it 😉
Put together a sensual Box
This idea follows the last bit of the previous gift idea and is a little bit above the PG 13 mark. Put together a box of goodies that will aid in the art of “enjoyment”. There are some interesting options out there without going crazy. Some ideas include action glow in the dark die, a feather, maybe some massage oil. I’m sure you catch my drift, it is Valentine’s Day after all. 🤪
These are a few of my Valentine’s Day Gifts that you can get each other. Most of them are also budget-friendly. Please leave a comment below and let us know what your big plans will include and how you are spending Valentine’s Day during the lockdown.
Just remember that you can be your own Valentine as well. If that is the case, check out this post here.
